Performers:

Akarana Piano Quartet, NZ Trio, Matthias Balzat, Indiana Williamson

Composers:

Bjorn Arntsen

A new album of chamber works by the Sápmi-born, New Zealander, Bjørn Arntsen. Works include Pinch Points performed by the Ākarana Piano Quartet, Pacific Notion performed by NZTrio He Taonga Wairere, a String Quartet performed by Towha, and the title track performed by young violinist, Indiana Williamson.

This album is a journey of turning shame into pride, a way of reclaiming Bjørn's Sámi identity, turning the ancestral whispers that have long been stuck in his ears into new musical ventures.

The music blends Sámi syntax, rhythms and repetitions with Māori vocabulary, and it has a strong focus and connection with mana whenua - indigenous land rights. Arntsen blends the tradition of American minimalism with outside influences that include electronic dance music, hip-hop and rock.
